Leg Up Scholarship: Long Weekend with Darrin Mollett

Strides for Equality Equestrians is currently accepting applications for a Leg Up Scholarship with Beverly Equestrian and Darrin Mollett in March 2023. SEE is pleased to announce its first scholarship geared toward Hunter/ Jumper riders! One applicant will be selected to join Darrin for training over 3-4 days at Beverly Equestrian’s winter base in Wellington, FL. The deadline for applications is February 12, 2023.

This is scholarship is a unique opportunity for a BIPOC equestrian who is serious about a potential career in some aspect of the hunter/ jumper world. SEE is thrilled to have the opportunity to expand access for riders hoping to grow their network and gain experience.

About the Training Camp

This Leg-Up Scholarship will provide 3-4 days of training in Wellington, Florida at Beverly Equestrian. Room, board, and lessons will be provided. The recipient will attend and possibly show at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington. There is some flexibility regarding the dates, but late March is preferred. Applicants must arrange and pay for their own transportation. Applicants with the ability to bring a horse are welcome to do so. Otherwise, a lesson horse may be available. Applicants interested in using a lesson horse for the camp should provide a video of their riding to ensure they are an appropriate fit for one of the available horses.

 

About Darrin Mollett

Darrin Mollett was born and raised in San Francisco, California. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles for undergraduate and law school. After law school, Mollett clerked for the Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and then practiced as a corporate attorney for 11 years. Mollett began riding and competing as an adult and has been successfully competing at the FEI levels of eventing since the late 1990s.

 

About Beverly Equestrian

In 2010, Mollett founded Beverly Equestrian, a multi-disciplinary equestrian center devoted to excellence, education, and horsemanship in The Plains, Virginia. Beverly supports riders pursuing advancement in English riding, including hunter/jumper, equitation and eventing.  Beverly also provides an active polo program that offers lessons and sales horses year round in Virginia and Florida, and hosts polo practices and league play during the Virginia season. 

Darrin Mollett and Beverly Equestrian have been recognized for their allyship in encouraging BIPOC riders. It is a safe, open, and welcoming program.

 

Eligibility and Application

Applicants must…

  • Be a minimum of 16 years old. (Minor applicants must be accompanied by a parent.)

  • Be based in the United States.

  • Be dedicated to developing a career path in equine sports.

  • Be willing to share their experience as part of SEE blogs, vlogs, social & print media.

  • Be committed to increasing access to equestrian sports for underrepresented groups.
